Shearwater WAVE Wearable Arts Event 2023

Shearwater WAVE Wearable Arts Event 2023

Our Mercurius Australia Manager recently had the pleasure of attending the latest Shearwater WAVE Performance, "The Gatekeeper".

WAVE is Shearwater Steiner School’s major annual performing arts event – standing for Wearable Arts Vision in Education and is in its 23rd year!

Showcasing wearable art works, WAVE is a competition covering five sections, with 11 prize winners judged by a panel of independent experts. The event combines fashion and performance into a highly professional, choreographed production.

The production involves more than 200 Shearwater high school students, as musicians, actors, writers, filmmakers and editors, lighting and audio technicians, carpenters, dancers, singers, tailors, artists, set and prop designers and makers, choreographers, photographers, graphic designers, stage hands, models, judges, ushers, and caterers.

Each year the Mercurius team looks forward to what the WAVE team and Shearwater produce, and as with previous years, this year left us in awe!

Congratulations to all the participants, producers, teachers, and the community behind this amazing event. And a special congratulations to this year’s wearable arts entrants and prize winners – the costumes and wearable art was outstanding, and we can only wonder at the levels of imagination and number of hours that go into the design and creation of each.

Each year we sponsor a prize category and this year Mercurius Australia sponsored the following two categories:

Section 5: The Gatekeeper; Congratulations Oceana Piccone for "The Rebellious Renaissance"

Emerging Artist Award; Congratulations River Davies for "Flower Power"
